Opponents of Biotechnology

Although talking about biotechnology engineering seems to be very promising, there are opponents to some of its applications. For example; genetic modified food and cloning of animals and humans which have attracted the attention of many societies that refuse to accept it. More over, cloning of animals has been considered as prohibited in some religions.

In conclusion, biotechnology engineering is considered as an emerging technology that contributes to the maximization of human benefit especially for the developed and poor countries. Its most attribute is increasing the production scale within the economical considerations while minimizing the pollution and energy consumption. Biotechnology also offers a variety of job opportunities in many fields starting from working in labs going to the chemical plants and agricultural fields

Applications of Biotechnology engineering

The wide applications of biotechnology engineering and the first to be known are the agricultural applications which include the elimination of plant diseases, increasing the productivity or adjusting the color, taste or shape of plants. Furthermore, biotechnology engineering has contributed a lot to the environmental management through the prevention or reduction of pollutant levels in water, air and soil.

The techniques and procedures which are employed in biotechnology are more that what can be listed or counted, however, some techniques are considered as the building blocks of biotechnology engineering. The first which is considered as the heart of biotechnology is genetic engineering which is basically the rearrangement of the genetic material by inserting, deleting or changing the order of genes in an organism. Genetic engineering is the science by which recombinant technology, cloning and fingerprinting are performed.

What is Biotechnology engineering

Biotechnology engineering is a combination of physical, chemical and biological aspects of science. It is any technique that uses living organisms or parts of living organisms to make or modify products, improve plants or animals, or develop microorganisms for specific uses.

Biotechnology engineering is not a single science nor a single procedure, technique or process. Rather, it involves a multitude of biotechnological techniques that draw upon all the sciences, as well as engineering. Consequently, there is no single educational track that will prepare a student for a career in biotechnology.

Biotechnology can be grouped into three general categories: human health care, agriculture and animal health care and energy and environmental management. It offers an alternative to the conventional drugs replacing it with organic-based medicines that doesn’t cause side effects and may be produced in large scale within the economical cost. Besides that, biotechnology engineers are able of producing alternative organs which imply a future of no-more suffer of desperate disabled and injured people.
